Established in 1998 the Chatham Island Taiko Trust was created to conserve the taiko and other unique Chatham Island wildlife as an integral part of the Chatham Island landscape. Although originally created to help save the endangered taiko, the Trust’s has expanded its aims to provide the Chatham Island community with the opportunity and tools needed to preserve and enhance natural habitats and wildlife on their unique islands.

First tui nest on Main Island for 40 years - a pair of the transferred tui are presently incubating in the Awatotara

Tui return to the Main Island - a transfer of 14 juvenile tui has seen these charismatic birds returned to the Main Island after a 20 year absence.

Predator control extended - Landowners Liz and Bruce Tuanui have gained Biodiversity Condition Funding to undertake extensive predator control in the Tuku catchment to benefitting local birdlife.
